Child Rights & Education

Foreword by Executive Director

Jibon Unnayan Sangstha (JUS) stands for a socio‑economic development organization for poor, vulnerable and rootless people, including adolescents. Since 2005 we have worked to advance people’s rights and their socio‑economic development through a range of programs.

In 2005, a group of young volunteers from Prembag area under Abaynagor (Avoynagar) Upazila took the initiative to protect the environment and support socially and economically underprivileged people. That same year, dedicated social workers of Abaynagor, Jashore established a non‑government organization named Jibon Unnayan Sangstha (JUS). We received registration from the Department of Social Services in 2008.

Over the years we worked on safe drinking water and sanitation, prevention of acid violence and human trafficking, health services, handicrafts, skills training for unemployed youth, street children’s education, microcredit and more—creating positive social, economic, cultural and moral change. Our 15+ years of experience led us to move from service delivery to a rights‑based approach focused on participation, empowerment, equity and responsibility. Today we work on good governance, child rights, protection of freedoms and environmental sustainability.

JUS is, and will remain, a people’s organization. Since August 2008 in Jashore and Khulna districts, our activities have helped form organized, responsive volunteer groups and bring positive change to underprivileged communities. With community involvement we continue to make progress each year toward our goals.

I am grateful to our community members, volunteers, stakeholders, staff, governing body, donors, development partners, beneficiaries and well‑wishers who help us carry forward this mission. We warmly expect your continued guidance and support for the betterment of the poorest and underprivileged people.

Nasrin Sultana
Executive Director, Jibon Unnayan Sangstha (JUS)
